Splenic infarction in case of malaria

C/o headache for 1 day followed by 5 days of fever. C/o abdominal pain - last two days.

Patient Data

Age: 14 - 15 yrs
Gender: Male

SPLEEN is mildly enlarged. No calcification is noted.
Multiple, geographic, hypoechoic, peripepherally based lesions are noted in spleen with loss of vascularity 
Largest lesion measures upto 35 mm.

Rest of the abdominal ultrasound was normal.


Case Discussion

Findings suggest multiple splenic infarcts.

Lab : Plasmodium vivax - positive.

Splenic infarcts and splenic rupture are complications of malaria.
