Splenic injury

Riding bicycle and hit on left side by car traveling at 30 mph. Tender ribs. Haemodynamically stable.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Acute splenic traumatic injury with inferior polar capsular tear, laceration and subcapsular hematoma (grade II AAST).
Otherwise liver, spleen, kidneys, pancreas and adrenals unremarkable.

No free fluid or gas.

No acute bony injury, in particular no rib fracture.

Incidental note of an accessory rib arising from the left L1, a so-called lumbar rib, a rare anatomic variant.
