Splenic laceration - AAST grade III

Presentation

Knee hit the chest while playing Oztag. Left lower rib pain with severe dyspnea and vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Splenic rupture with associated moderate to large hemoperitoneum. No splenic arterial pseudoaneurysm or active contrast extravasation identified. There is rupture of the splenic capsule with splenic laceration and parenchymal hematomas measuring up to 4.5 cm in diameter through the inferior pole, consistent with a grade 3 injury.

Case Discussion

The patient was conservatively managed under general surgery with input from endocrinology and the acute pain service. After bed rest for 5 days patient was discharged from hospital.
