Splenomegaly

Presentation

Known hepatic cirrhosis. Follow up scan.

Patient Data

Age: 60
Gender: Male
Ultrasound

Moderate splenomegaly. The spleen measures 22cm in length.

It dwarfs the neighboring normal left kidney.

Case Discussion

The causes of splenomegaly are multiple.  It is most commonly assessed and observed with ultrasound.

In this case it is enlarged due to portal hypertension from lond standing liver cirrhosis.
