CT performed ten years after surgery showed multiple nodules up to 2.5 cm, distributed throughout the abdomen. They have irregular margins and weak enhancement and presumably represent splenosis given the history.

Case Discussion

Ectopic splenic tissue can be congenital or acquired. The congenital form, called accessory spleen, is found in 10% of the population. The acquired form, from dissemination of splenic tissue (usually after a traumatic event), is found in 26-72% of patients who have had a splenectomy.
