Spondylodiscitis and right psoas abscess

Abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Gender: Female
Modality: CT

Erosion of the T12-L1 inferior and superior end plates with loss of T12-L1 disc height associated with pre-vertebral fluid collection measures 15 mm in thickness.

Left paravertebral fluid collection measuring 22 mm in thickness as well as right paravertebral collection involving the right psoas muscle measuring 38 x 27 mm which extends craniocaudally from the level of upper border of T12 to lower border of L2.

Modality: MRI

MRI of the same patient, demonstrates abnormal bone marrow signal of T12 and L1 with pre and bilateral paravertebral abscesses

Case Discussion

A patient with long-term abdominal and low back pain.

CT and MRI images demonstrate T12-L1 spondylodiscitis complicated by prevertebral, bilateral paravertebral and right psoas abscesses.
