Spontaneous rupture of spleen

Presentation

Patient presented with abdominal pain of 1 day's duration. There was no history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
CT

There is an intrasplenic haematoma with associated haemoperitoneum.  A sentinel clot can be identified in the splenic and perisplenic region.

Case Discussion

Spontaneous splenic rupture is a poorly understood and rare entity. The involved spleen may be normal or have an underlying pathology.
