Presentation

Left renal colic. History of right nephrectomy.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

The CTU demonstrates:

  • left staghorn calculus with moderate hydronephrosis
  • right kidney (history of nephrectomy for staghorn calculus with non-functioning kidney)
  • herniation of the liver (segment 6) and abdominal fat through a defect of the right posterolateral abdominal wall at the superior lumbar triangle.

Case Discussion

CT features a left staghorn calculus with moderate hydronephrosis and secondary acquired right lumbar hernia at the superior lumbar triangle (also known as the triangle of Grynfeltt-Lesshaft) in a patient with a history of right nephrectomy.
