Starr-Edwards aortic valve.

Cardiac resynchronisation therapy pacemaker.

Lungs, pleura clear. Normal heart size.

Sternal wires.

Case Discussion

This patient had a metallic Starr-Edwards aortic valve implanted in the early 1970s for subaortic stenosis.

These prostheses required life long anticoagulation with high-target INRs, and have been preferentially replaced by (several) other generations of cardiac valve prostheses.
