Striated testis - orchitis

Case contributed by Dr Henry Knipe

Left testicular pain for four days.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Right testis has normal echotexture. Left testis has a striated appearance.

Symmetrical, normal vascularity.

Case Discussion

Striated appearance of the left testis was new from prior examination in 2011. The patient was reviewed by the urology unit, who felt that infection was the most likely cause.

Enterococcus faecalis was cultured from a urine sample.

Striated appearance of the testes is non-specific and can represent:

  • fibrosis (in elderly population)
  • infection
  • malignancy
