Presentation
Partial amputation of the 3rd digit of the left hand following a road traffic accident one year ago presented with a focal area of pain and tenderness to palpation.
Patient Data
The MRI sequences demonstrate a small well-defined lesion measuring 5 x 4 x 4 mn of the anterolateral aspect of the 3rd digit at the level of the proximal phalangeal head, eliciting a low signal on T1, high signal on T2 with vivid homogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences.
Annotated images: the yellow arrow indicates the location of the lesion.
Case Discussion
MRI features are most consistent with a stump neuroma arising from the end of the injured palmar digital nerve. Its detection on MRI is sometimes difficult when the lesion is small in size as in this case.
