Subcortical cystic leukomalacia

Presentation

1 month old male presented with history of birth asphyxia.

Patient Data

Age: 1 month
Gender: Male
Ultrasound

Ultrasound study shows subcortical cystic leukomalacia in bilateral frontal lobes and also areas of increased periventricular echogenicity in the deep white matter.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates a cystic periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) which it is considered a predictive sonographic marker for cerebral palsy. By the images it is possible to classify the PVL as a grade 4.
