Biconvex (lentiform) extra-axial hyperdense collection overlying the left parietal and occipital lobe. On bone window, it can be seen to cross a normal appearing suture (no diastasis or fracture). There is, however, significant overlying scalp hematoma. No definite underlying contusion.
Extra-axial hemorrhage crossing a suture usually is sufficient to distinguish a subdural hematoma from an extradural hematoma.
Case Discussion
This is a case of an acute subdural hematoma (confirmed at surgery - deep to the dura). It can be difficult to distinguish the two especially if there is sutural diastasis.
