Presentation
Presented with the left posterior thigh pain. Total count - 26000, CRP - 118.
Patient Data
There is mild soft tissue swelling involving the thigh. There is no periosteal reaction/ fracture/ dislocation/ bone lesion.
The ultrasound shows hypoechoic collection with internal tiny echoes abutting the posterior femoral cortex at the site of pain pointed by the patient. It measures about 70 x 35 x 10 mm. The femoral cortex is intact without obvious irregularity. There is no collection involving the local muscles.
Case Discussion
A girl presented with the non-traumatic onset of posterior thigh pain. The radiograph of the femur did not show bony abnormality. However, ultrasound shows a subperiosteal collection involving the femur.
Surgery confirmed the ultrasound finding of a subperiosteal abscess.
