Subperiosteal abscess of the orbit

A collection thickness up to 8 mm and AP length up to 20 mm in inferior and nasal extraconal of the left orbital cavity with impression on adjacent extraocular muscles and medial rectus muscle and superior oblique muscle, left side proptosis, preseptal soft tissue swelling, and fluid and thick mucosa in left side paranasal sinuses more severe in left ethmoid air cells are seen.
Case Discussion
The case illustrates the non-contrast MDCT features of the pus aspiration-proved subperiosteal abscess of the orbital cavity. The abscess can lead to superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis, cavernous sinus thrombosis, and septicemia and be fatal 1.
