The images show a distended superficial infrapatellar bursa. Outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Collateral ligaments, posterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus are normal. Presence of degenerative aspects of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus.

Case Discussion

Irritation, pressure or friction on the bursa cause it to produce excess fluid as a protective mechanism to prevent damage, resulting in bursitis. The bursa swells and if left untreated, may thicken and then harden. In other situations, calcifications may appear in the bursa.
