Presentation

Left flank pain.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Left lumbar hernia with omental fat and a small part of bowel loop protruding as contents are noted. Defect measuring about 30 mm in diameter.

A 7 mm cyst is present at the 6th hepatic segment.

The left kidney is small and shows parenchymal atrophic changes. A 12 mm stone is present at the left renal pelvis accompanied by mild hydronephrosis. Additionally, a 5 mm stone is noted at the lower calyx of the same kidney.

Case Discussion

A lumbar hernia occurs through defects in the lumbar muscles or the posterior fascia, below the 12th rib, and above the iliac crest.
