Superior mesenteric artery thrombosis

Patient presented with acute abdomen. H/o chronic smoking & alcohol use.

Age: 52
Gender: Male

Case Discussion

There is a large filling defect in the proximal SMA for a length of 3.5 cm on contrast study, compatible with SMA thombosis.

There is portal venous gas in both lobes of the liver most likely secondary to bowel ischemia

There are multiple air pockets in the wall of the small bowel with moderately dilated small bowel loops compatible with pneumatosis intestinalis.
