There is a filling defect in the superior mesenteric vein and branches. The bowel wall is thickened and hypo-attenuating, the lumen is dilated. Mesenteric congestion and stranding is also observed.

Superior mesenteric vein thrombosis can lead to inadequate tissue perfusion leading to intestinal ischemia, infarction and eventual necrosis.
