Superior sagittal sinus thrombosis

Headache and right sided weakness. On oral contraceptive pill.

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Female

Area of hyper-density noted along the superior sagittal sinus especially its mid portion. This is best visualized on the sagittal view. Hypodense region in the left frontal lobe, in keeping with venous infarction.


Patient went on to have MRI brain for further assessment of the Superior Sagittal Sinus

Extensive sinus thrombosis involving most of the superior sagittal sinus except the posterior portion.  There is an area of high T2 signal with diffusion restriction (DWI sequence not posted in this case) demonstrated in the left frontal lobe suggestive of venous infarction.

Case Discussion

Patient was commenced on bridging therapeutic clexane and warfarin.
