Longitudinal and transverse images demonstrate an ovoid, predominantly hypoechoic mass overlying the medial head of the gastrocnemius.  At the proximal and distal ends, the lesion tapers into the normal nerve.  No internal calcifications or regions of necrosis are identified.  There is no peripheral or internal vascularity.

The schwannoma presented in this case was incidentally discovered. Based on physical examination of the patient, a popliteal cyst was suspected. Upon further questioning, the patient reported no symptoms related to the schwannoma. No further workup was performed.
