Presentation

Large right upper lobe pulmonary abscess. Recently removed abscess drain. Crepitus of chest developed.

Patient Data

Age: 74
Gender: Female
x-ray

Gas filled cavity with volume loss in the right upper lobe. 

The abscess cavity is now devoid after percutaneous drainage.

Extensive air in the subcutaneous and muscular planes of the chest and neck after drain removal.

 

Case Discussion

The right upper lobe abscess cavity contains only gas after successful CT guided percutaenous drainage.

Extensive air within the soft tissue planes of the chest and neck in keeping with surgical emphysema.

No pneumothorax or pneumomediastinum.
