There is a hyperdense collection with no enhancement in segments 5 and 6 measuring 5.5 x 5 x 4 cm (hematoma) with an adjacent area of mixed density at the site of liver resection containing fluid with small air bubbles.
Deep hepatic lacerations in segments, 5 and 7 with no major hepatic vein injury.
No free fluid is seen in the peritoneal cavity.
Subhepatic surgical drains.
Bilateral pleural effusion with bibasal atelectasis mainly on the right.
Case Discussion
In this case, a surgical hemostatic material (Surgicel®) was used by the surgeon to control bleeding during surgery and should not be confused with a gossypiboma or liver abscess.
