Presentation

Ingestion of a foreign body.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Metallic object consistent with a coin lies over the left iliac fossa. No free gas.

Small air/fluid levels in small bowel loops in right upper quadrant.

Case Discussion

Most ingested foreign bodies pass without the need for intervention. Foreign bodies that have passed beyond the duodenum, such as in this case, can usually be managed conservatively, with repeat imaging to ensure successful passage.
