Presentation

Workup for trauma. Incidental findings.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

A congenital fusion of the distal and middle phalanges of the little toe is known as symphalangism. In addition, a small bony projection is noted in the lateral aspect of the distal phalanx of the little toe, which is most consistent with turret exostosis.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates little toe symphalangism, a common anatomical variant of ankylosis or synostosis of the interphalangeal joints. A suspected turret exostosis is also observed in the lateral aspect, believed to arise from reactive periosteum after relatively mild and repetitive trauma.
