Case contributed by RMH Core Conditions

Inversion injury.

Patient Data

Age: 43
Gender: Male
X-ray

Lateral talar shift. No definite fracture identified. Incidental os trigonum

X-ray

There is a spiral fracture of the neck of the fibula without significant displacement. Ankle imaging shows lateral talar shift indicating disruption of the deltoid ligament.

These findings in combination with the fibular fracture indicate extensive tibio-fibula syndesmotic injury

X-ray

There are 2 diastasis screws across the distal tibiofibular joint.

Alignment of the mortice is now anatomical.

Case Discussion

This injury pattern is known by the eponymous name - Maisonneuve fracture.
