Systemic hydatic cysts

Admitted with abdominal distension.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

There are multiple cysts in the lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys and soft tissue. 

Case Discussion

In this case, how was the diagnosis made?

  • abdominal ultrasound examinations performed until three years ago was normal
  • laboratory parameters and tumor markers were normal
  • abdominal ultrasound correlation revealed uncomplicated, purely cystic lesions

With these findings diagnosis of disseminated hydatid cysts was established.

Hydatid cysts represent a parasitic infestation that which may affect the liver and lung, although potentially anywhere in the human body.
