Presentation

Intermittent chest, abdomen and bilateral upper limb pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

  • The bilateral subclavian arteries are occluded, with axillary arteries formed by chest wall collaterals
  • Wall thickening, but no severe stenosis, of the thoracic and abdominal aorta
  • Approximately 60% stenosis of the superior mesenteric artery at its origin
  • Approximately 60% stenosis of the proximal right renal artery

CT findings are consistent with Takayasu arteritis.

Case Discussion

The patient, in this case, was treated with corticosteroids and methotrexate, and the disease remained stable. Repeat CT and PET two years later showed stable disease and no evidence of active disease.
