There is irregularity at the articulation between the middle facet of the subtalar articulation between the calcaneus and talus. There is associated marrow edema on either side of the synchondrosis compatible with fibrous talocalcaneal coalition.

Post-op radiograph

x-ray

Post-operative lateral x-ray following successful talocalcaneal excision.

Case Discussion

In this case, the MRI reveals a fibrous connection between the talus and calcaneus, accompanied by surrounding reactive edema that is consistent with talocalcaneal coalition. The patient underwent surgical excision of the middle facet coalition without any complications. During the three-week post-operative checkup, the patient exhibited remarkable progress in physical therapy with only occasional use of acetaminophen, while radiography revealed appropriate post-surgical changes.
