Presentation

Left ankle pain following a twist. History of previous orthopedic surgery.

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is complete osseous fusion of talus and navicular bones.

A radio-opaque implant is seen at the sinus tarsus (represents subtalar arthroereises) which appears obliterated in the lateral view.

No recent fractures, destructive bony lesions or joint space narrowing.

Case Discussion

This case is an example of osseous talonavicular coalition which is an uncommon subtype of tarsal coalition.

Subtalar arthroereises is a procedure in which an implant is inserted inside the sinus tarsi to treat pes planus.
