Talus dislocation

Case contributed by Dr Sajoscha Sorrentino

Presentation

Swollen, painful foot and inability to walk after unfortunate fall.

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Male
X-ray

Radiographs show the talus to be lateral to the calcaneus and tibia.

Case Discussion

Make sure to call the report to your requesting physician, because early reduction is critically important to protect neurovascular structures. The posterior tibial neurovascular bundle passes behind the medial malleolus and then through the tarsal tunnel, making injuries to the tibial nerve, posterior tibial artery or veins possible in talus dislocations.
