TASER injury to eye

Case contributed by Dr Jayanth Keshavamurthy

Accidentally stuck with TASER by siblings. Eye injury and not able to see.

Patient Data

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female

TASER barb stuck in the neck. No pneumothorax.

Penetrating injury to the left globe, with internal hyperdensities, likely representing active bleeding, and small internal focus of air. Lens has been displaced. Globe is deformed.

Case Discussion

  1. TASER barb was removed by trauma surgeon
  2. The patient has a pthisis bulbi and micro opthalmos as a result of TASER injury to the eye. This is despite early and quick interventions in a Children's hospital
  3. No vision in left eye and since this happened in a kid has future cosmetic problems related to the growth of the eye
