Temporomandibular joint ankylosis

Trismus, poor oral hygiene

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male

There is ankylosis of both mandibular condyles and their respective fossae.

Case Discussion

TMJ sclerosis in children is most commonly due to trauma. Other causes include infection, rheumatoid arthritis, hypoparathyroidism, psoriasis, and burns.

This particular patient also had a history of periodontal abscesses.
