Tenosynovial giant cell tumor - thumb

Presentation

Increasing focal swelling of thumb with minimal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Well defined lobulated abnormal signal ( low on T1 high on PD fs ) soft tissue lesion measuring about 10*15 mm is abutting the ventromedial aspect of the flexor tendon sheath of the thumb proximal phalanx causing to focal contour bulge.

No intra-osseous extension of the mass is seen.

Case Discussion

On the basis of MRI findings and history of slow growth, the possibility of giant cell tumor of tendon sheath was suggested.

Local surgical excision was performed:
Histopathology: Giant cell-rich lesion is consistent with the giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath.
