Tenosynovitis stenosans

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Tenderness over the 3rd flexor digitorum tendon sheath. Locking of the finger in flexed position.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male

Diffuse oedema along the flexor tendons of the middle finger. Minimal effusion in the tendon sheath and focal thickening of the flexor tendon tissue between the A1 and A2 pulley (compare with neighbouring digs. II and IV).

Case Discussion

MRI is not really necessary for the diagnosis of a trigger finger, but it may nicely display nodular thickening of the tendons.
