Urinary incontinence

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

MRI lumbar spine

S3 spina bifida with an open posterior neural arch that shows dorsal dermal sinus tract harboring dysplastic neurogenic and fibrous tissues. Associated superficially located subcutaneous loculus of CSF like intensities averaging 1 cm in size likely small meningocele.

Low lying spinal cord with posterior tethering to the site of the defect (at S3 level).

1 cm intra-spinal CSF like intensity loculus at S1 level likely small intra-spinal arachnoid cyst.

A mild degree of spondylolisthesis noted at L5/S1 level.

Incidental solitary left kidney.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates radiological features of spina bifida at S3 level and tethered cord. On imaging, it manifests as a low conus medullaris (below L2) and thickened filum terminale (> 2 mm).
