Presentation
Wrist pain after trauma
Patient Data

Frontal X-ray of the left wrist shows complete fusion between the lunate and triquetrum.
No fractures.

Coronal T1 MRI sequence shows complete fusion between the lunate and triquetral bones, consistent with the lunotriquetral coalition.
Associated TFCC tear at its ulnar insertion is noted (PALMER IB) and distal radioulnar joint effusion are noted.
Chondromalacia of the medial aspect of the lunate and the pisiform is noted.
Case Discussion
Lunotriquetral coalition is the most common type of carpal coalition and represents a congenital fusion of the lunate and triquetral bones of the carpus.
