Thenar intramuscular lipoma

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Patient noticed palm asymmetry two weeks ago. Physical examination demonstrated right thenar eminence mass.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Well-defined, irregular shaped, predominantly hyperechoic intramuscular soft tissue mass. It measures at least 33 x 20 x 20 mm at the widest three planes. Color Doppler interrogation demonstrates minimal internal vascularity.

Well-defined, homogeneous low attenuating (-100.9 HU) intramuscular mass. No areas of internal calcifications are seen.

Case Discussion

Lipomas are composed of mature adipocytes and are the most common benign neoplasms. The majority are superficial and can occur anywhere in the body. In literature few cases of intramuscular lipomas of the hand have been documented. This is a rare case of thenar region intramuscular lipoma.
