There is a non-displaced and minimally shortened fracture of the third metacarpal. It is an oblique pattern with less than 10 degrees of angulation.

Case Discussion

Metacarpal fractures are one of the most common fractures of the hand. Diagnosis can be made on plain X-ray in the majority of circumstances. The patient reported pain and swelling after another soccer player inadvertently stepped on their hand.

Typical mechanisms of injuries involve either direct blows to the hand or high-energy impact injuries such as motor vehicle accidents.
