Third ventriculostomy with CSF flow study

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Intraventricular haemorrhage as infant with hydrocephalus and endoscopic third ventriculostomy at age 10.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

High-resolution T2 weighted sequences through the 3rd ventricle demonstrate a small defect measuring 2 mm in its floor, communicating with the interpeduncular cistern consistent with a prior third ventriculostomy. On CSF flow studies definite flow through this defect is demonstrated (most easily seen on sagittal phase images).

Appearances of the remainder of the brain are unaltered when compared to previous imaging, with irregular ventriculomegaly, no evidence of transependymal edema, and a right occipitoparietal neural shunt tube.
