Suffering from dyspnea secondary to interstitial lung disease (ILD). Diaphragmatic herniation of the pancreas is an incidental finding of this imaging.
Patient Data
CT images demonstrate thoracic herniation of the pancreatic tail with intra-abdominal fat tissue via defect in the diaphragm.
Case Discussion
Diaphragmatic hernias are sub-divided into two groups: congenital and acquired.
In an asymptomatic case with left-sided diaphragmatic hernia, one should think Bochdalek or traumatic subtypes. In a Bochdalek hernia, the herniating structure could be stomach, intestine, spleen, or kidney. In a traumatic hernia, herniation of stomach, small bowel, omentum, spleen, or kidney is possible.
Herniation of pancreas is a rare condition reported in only a few cases; most of them were hiatal. In this case, asymptomatic herniation of tail of pancreas via the musculotendinous defect is presented.
