Case contributed by Dr Ian Bickle

Elderly patient who suffered from TB as a teenager. Short of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 78
Gender: Male

Distortion and collapose of the right thoracic cavity with volume marked loss.

Absent ribs in the upper and right mid thoracic cage.    Dense pleural calcification.

Left lung clear.

Case Discussion

Now rarely observed due to the use to mutiple therapy regimes, thoracoplasty was a fairly radical treatment form of treatment for TB prior to chemotherapeutic options.

The appearances are distinct following intentional resection and collapse of the thoracic cavity.
