Thoracoplasty post-tuberculosis

Routine CXR preop knee arthroplasty.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

There is deformity of the right upper ribs and chest wall with resultant volume loss (manifesting as tracheal deviation and mediastinal shift). The right upper zone has increased opacity secondary to fibrosis, which has been stable over many years. Cardiomegaly. 

Case Discussion

Thoracoplasty was a surgical technique used to treat cavitating tuberculosis in the first half of the last century.
