Thumb pulp abscess

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Thumb pain + swelling + restricted movements for 2 days.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Increased soft tissue thickness is noted involving pulp of thumb.

Approximately 8 x 5 mm sized irregular anechoic - hypoechoic avascular area is noted in proximal part of pulp.

Hypervascularity is noted in rest of the pulp region.

No foreign body could be localized.

No tenosynovitis / tendinosis / tendon tear s noted.

No joint effusion / cortical is noted.

Case Discussion

Findings favor a small abscess.

Incision and drainage: Pus pocket.
