Presentation

Painless swelling of the upper anterior neck at midline.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Small well-defined lobulated midline cystic lesion with posterior enhancement at the level of the hyoid bone. Normal echotexture and location of the thyroid gland.

Case Discussion

Thyroglossal duct cysts are the most common type of congenital neck cysts in pediatric neck masses. They are typically located in the midline and are the most common midline neck mass in young patients. Ectopic thyroid is seen in ~40% of cases.
