Neck lump.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

In the midline of the neck lying between the hyoid bone and the cricoid cartilage is a lobulated mass that is predominantly hypodense but with an enhancing solid component without calcification inferiorly. The solid component lies in the midline between the strap muscles along with the hypodense component, which extends through the thyrohyoid membrane into the preepiglottic space. There may be invagination into the left strap muscles.

Minimal thyroid parenchyma in the thyroid bed, left more than right, in keeping with previous thyroid surgery.

No abnormal cervical lymph nodes identified. Right paratracheal air cyst.

Case Discussion

Thyroglossal duct cyst with pre-epiglottic space extension. Solid component inferiorly may reflect gland hyperplasia post thyroidectomy.
