Tibial plateau fracture - Schatzker type IV

Presentation

Motor vehicle accident with direct impact to knee region then suffered from severe pain and inability to move.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Comminuted cleavage wedge-shaped fracture of the lateral tibial plateau extending to the medial tibial plateau associated with gapping and displacement.

Fracture of the proximal fibula.

Fat-fluid level of lipohaemoarthrosis is noted in the suprapatellar recess.

Case Discussion

CT images demonstrate a comminuted fracture of the lateral tibial plateau with the fracture extending to the medial tibial plateau.  The fractures are not extending to the tibial diaphysis.

Imaging findings are consistent with Schatzker type IV.
