Minor degenerative change in the medial tibiofemoral compartments, there is slight joint narrowing and tiny osteophytes. Given the patient's age (55 years old) this level of degeneration can be considered normal.
Case Discussion
An estimated 80% of the population over 65 years of age will have radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis 3 , and the trend is only expected to grow due to the aging population. There is a degree of individual interpretation regarding the diagnosis of osteoarthritis 1,2. Consequently, there is increasing research in computer aided diagnosis of osteoarthritis in plain radiography of the knee, but for the time being the human reader is the gold standard in accurate diagnosis 4.
