Post traumatic ankle pain

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ct

CT study shows the following:

  • small bony overgrowths are seen originating from the anteromedial tibial plafond as well as the anteromedial aspect of the talus
  • small calcaneal spurs are seen plantar and posterior at the Achilles tendon insertion
  • type 1 accessory navicular bone
  • anterior calcaneal process fracture and mild offset at the calcaneocuboid joint indicating midtarsal sprain
  • small bony ossicles are seen related to the talar neck and intermediate cuneiform
  • minimal soft tissue edema

Case Discussion

Tibiotalar spurs are bony proliferation of the anterior tibial plafond and the anterior talus. They can be found in asymptomatic individuals or in patients who present with anterior ankle pain. They are considered to have an important role in the development of anterior or anteromedial ankle impingement
