Tillaux fracture

Case contributed by Bálint Botz
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Sustained a fall. Unable to bear weight.

Patient Data

Age: 16 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

The intra-articular fracture of the anterolateral aspect of the distal tibial epiphysis is clearly visible.

There is an associated hemarthrosis and fat pad displacement which can be best discerned anteriorly on the laterolateral radiograph (see magnified, rewindowed key image). In this particular case it has little additional importance, but it is good habit to pay attention to these soft tissue abnormalities to detect similar but more subtle fractures
